DEATH OF MR. MOR-
TIMER DESOUZA.
PASSED AWAY YESTERDAY
AFTERNOON, AFTER A FORT-
NIGHT'S ILLNESS.

   We regret to announce the death
of Mr. Mortimer C. DeSouza, the
senior member of the firm of Messrs.
Mortimer C. DeSouza & Company,
stationers and printers of this city.
The sad occurrence took place at his
late residence, "Excelsior," on the
Connolly Avenue yesterday after-
noon.
   Mr. DeSouza had been ailing for
some time past, but he was only con-
fined to his residence for a couple of
weeks. His condition grew worse
and despite skilled attention he pass-
ed away yesterday.
   The deceased, gentleman was born
in Kingston, Jamaica, on the 16th
February, 1865. He was educated
at the Collegiate School and after
completing his education he was ap-
prenticed to the late Mr. Michael de-
Cordova in 1869. He opened job
printing business for himself in 1882
in this city. Prior to that he was on
the reporting staff of the "Gleaner"
during the Franco-Prussian war and
served in the Kingston Infantry Mili-
tia from 1880 to 1885.
   Mr. DeSouza. was a most courteous
and affable gentleman - one who was
always willing to do his fellowman
a good turn; and his demise will be
regretted by a large circle of friends
whom he had in different parts of
the island. He is survived by a
widow and children and to them the
Gleaner tenders its sincere con-
dolence.
   The funeral will take place at 4.30
o'clock this afternoon.
